Sarah Hand is an illustrator, paper mache artist, painter, and art teacher. From her earliest days, she loved to make things - from a tiny quilt for her dollhouse to puppet shows for her family to handmade sketchbooks - and that love is still strong today.
Sarah’s art is inspired by her love of color, feelings of contentment, wonderment, and curiosity about the world we live in.
The child of a Navy family, Sarah grew up in many different places. Her time in Germany had a major affect on her. You can see it in her art - her love of whimsical, folky people, bright vintage colors, and a deep love of mushroom houses….. (overcast days will always be her favorite).
Nowadays, Sarah spends her time making illustrations, paper mache dolls and animals, gallery shows, teaching paper mache to all ages at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and Studio 23, and drawing whenever she can.
She lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband and three-legged cat, Roger.
